Electronic Art:
Screen Works, Inc. uses Macintosh computers to prepare and process artwork. Certain IBM formats are however acceptable for conversion by our Art Department. In order for electronic artwork to be successfully received and used by Screen Works, the following guidlines should be followed:
- Formats and Applications
- Macintosh - Screen Works uses the most up-to-date versions of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Macromedia Freehand (Illustrator and Photoshop being the preferred formats). QuarkXPress files are also acceptable, however, they are uneditable if any adjustments are necessary.
- IBM (IBM Compatible) - If you are using CorelDraw (any version) on an IBM compatible computer, you must export your art to the Adobe Illustrator 3.0 format. This procedure will put the .ai extension at the end of the file. Next you will be asked if you want any text in the document to stay as text or to be converted to curves. You must convert to curves if you want to eliminate any problems associated with fonts.
- CorelDraw .CDR or .CGM files will NOT be accepted.
- CorelDraw 7.0 files must be saved as a CorelDraw 6.0 file and then exported to the Adobe Illustrator 3.0 file format as mentioned previously to avoid a known bug in the program.
- Adobe Illustrator PC or IBM Freehand files are cross platform compatible, but you must remember to convert all text to outlines before sending the art to Screen Works.
- Fonts
- If you are working on a Macintosh computer and are using a specific font in your design, you must include the screen font and the printer download font with your file. If you cannot do this, you MUST convert all fonts to outlines. Be aware, however, that the type will be uneditable once this is done. If changes are necessary, we may request hat you resend the CORRECTED artwork, or the Screen Works Art Department can correct the file using a matching or similar type style.
- Placed Art
- Please be certain that any Placed or Imported EPS or TIFF artwork is included with your file to ensure proper output.
- Transport Media
- Files can be sent to Screen Works on 3.5" floppy disks (double or high-density), Zip disks, CDs, and SyQuests. Please label your media with your company's pertinent information to ensure its safe return to you.
- Laser Proofs
- You should include a laser or color copy of your art along with your disk. This provides us a reference to ensure the integrity of the final art.
- E-Mail
- Art can be sent to the Screen Works Art Department at: art@screenworksinc.com. Please contact us if you are sending art via e-mail to help us determine its arrival time.
